Last year I wrote about how shocked I was at the deteriorating standards of customer service in the U.S on my visit to Boston. I couldn&amp;#39;t work out whether the shock of the recession (empty shops, fire sales etc) were making people feel sorry for themselves, or whether the preceding period of comfortable growth had got everyone into bad habits.
